More than 14,000 studies back the healthy benefits of Omega-3 EPA/DHA from fish and fish oil. In addition to maintaining overall good health in adults, research supports Omega-3’s benefits to the heart and cardiovascular system.
A recent nation-wide study from New Zealand found that a higher ratio of Omega-3 EPA (fish) to Omega-6 ARA (vegetable oils) was associated with “a significant positive trend” in self-reported overall physical and mental wellbeing. (Crowe. AJCN. 2007; 86(5):1278-85)
In adulthood, most people take stock of their food choices to ensure their diets are well-balanced to support optimal health and longevity. Clinical research has shown that a healthy diet can help protect against diseases that manifest later in life and present serious health risks. Foods rich in EPA/DHA form part of that healthy diet.
Cardiovascular (Heart & Blood Vessel) Health
Omega-3 EPA/DHA supports cardiovascular system health, such as helping to maintain normal healthy triglyceride levels. Health institutions worldwide support fish and fish oil capsules as part of a heart-healthy diet.

Studies Support Omega-3 for Heart Health
Among thousands of studies showing the positive effects of Omega-3 EPA/DHA on cardiovascular health, are two landmark studies:
The JELIS (Japan Lipid Intervention Study, 2007), which involved nearly 5,000 doctors and more than 18,000 patients (Yokoyama. The Lancet. 2007; 369:1090-98) and the Italian GISSI-Prevenzione study (Italy, 2002), which included more than 11,000 patients. (Marchioli. Circulation. 2002; 105(16):1897-903)
A large Greek study (ATTICA) looked at the benefits of the fish-rich Mediterranean diet. (Zampelas. J Amer Coll Cardiology. 2005; 46:120-4 & Chrysohoou. AJCN. 2007; 85(5):1385-91)
