Omega-3 EPA/DHA support cardiovascular system health and help maintain healthy triglyceride levels. EPA is a natural substance used by the body to oppose the effects of inflammation. In 2004, the US FDA approved a qualified health claim regarding the benefits of Omega-3 EPA/DHA in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease:

"Supportive but not conclusive research shows that of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. One serving of [name of food] provides [x] grams of EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids.”

Of the over 14,000 scientific studies that have evaluated Omega-3 EPA/DHA and good health, the majority have investigated fish oil and its potential cardiovascular benefits

Internationally recognized health institutions, such as the American Heart Association and the US National Institutes of Health, support fish and/or fish oil capsules as part of a heart-healthy diet.
